The Staff Accountant prepares, reconciles, and reviews financial documents, reports, and statements. Supports month and year-end financial close. Reconciles cash receipts and multiple bank accounts. Applies accounts receivable payments. Works with various ASHP departments and customers to research and resolve open accounts receivable balances.   

 

This position will be based onsite in our Bethesda, MD office, and the employee in this role will be working in a hybrid environment, consistent with Association-wide ASHP policies applicable to HQ-based employees.  At ASHP, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach.  The base salary for this position is $68,000-$73,000 and ASHP offers a comprehensive benefits plan.  Click ASHP Benefits to learn more about our benefits. 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepares journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations for month/year-end close
  • Completes multiple bank reconciliations 
  • Assists with processing customers’ payments and account inquiries
  • Prepares daily operating cash receipt reconciliation 
  • Monitors AR accounts and assists in sending customer invoices as needed
  • Reviews and verifies customer credit terms
  • Research and recommend treatment of customer credit balances
  • Generates miscellaneous invoices and submits through customer portals as needed
  • Research and recommend treatment of stale dated checks
  • Add approved general ledger accounts into AMS and financial system
  • Prepares audit schedules for annual financial audit
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You Bring to ASHP

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Experience or knowledge of accrual accounting, reconciliations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Exceptional technical accounting skills
  • Sound judgment
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Personal credibility
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Eager to learn and be part of a high-functioning team
  • Proficiency in leading accounting software packages (ex. Sage Intacct, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Great Plains)
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in other business software packages such as Concur, Nexus, and Personify a plus but not required
  • Nonprofit organization experience a plus but not required
